1. Agreement to these terms
By accessing or using ModMarshal, you agree to these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
These terms apply to visitors, Discord members, Discord server owners, administrators and anyone else who uses ModMarshal.
2. Eligibility and authority
You must have a valid Discord account and meet Discord's minimum age requirement for your country. Where you are not legally able to agree to these terms yourself, a parent or legal guardian must agree on your behalf.
When you configure ModMarshal for a Discord server, you confirm that you own that server or have sufficient permission and authority to manage it, add applications and change roles or channel access.
You must provide accurate information and use only Discord accounts and servers that you are authorised to access.
3. What ModMarshal provides
ModMarshal provides tools that can:
- Let a Discord member begin verification through a persistent button.
- Authenticate a member using Discord OAuth.
- Check whether the member belongs to the selected Discord server.
- Add a configured Verified role and, where selected, remove an Unverified role.
- Let authorised server administrators configure roles, channels and verification behaviour.
- Record verification attempts and display statistics or recent activity.
Features may depend on Discord's systems, the bot's permissions, role order, server settings and the information supplied by Discord.
4. Verification limitations
ModMarshal does not currently guarantee detection of alternate accounts, ban evasion, compromised accounts, fraud or other harmful behaviour. Successful verification must not be treated as proof that a member can be trusted.
Server owners remain responsible for their own moderation decisions, rules, permissions and safety measures. ModMarshal should be used as one access control tool rather than as a replacement for human moderation or Discord's safety features.
5. Discord connection and permissions
ModMarshal is an independent third-party service and is not Discord, endorsed by Discord or responsible for Discord's platform.
Your use of Discord remains subject to Discord's own terms, policies and community rules. Discord may change its APIs, permissions, role system, account requirements or availability at any time.
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your Discord account secure.
- Reviewing the permissions requested by the ModMarshal bot and website.
- Keeping the bot's role above any roles it needs to add or remove.
- Ensuring selected channels and roles are correct.
- Removing the bot or revoking access when you no longer want to use the service.
6. Acceptable use
You may use ModMarshal only for lawful and authorised purposes. You must not:
- Access or attempt to access another person's account, server or private information without permission.
- Use ModMarshal to harass, discriminate against, deceive, impersonate or unfairly target others.
- Use the service to facilitate illegal activity, scams, malware, abuse or violations of Discord's rules.
- Send automated requests that overload, disrupt or interfere with the website, bot, database or connected services.
- Bypass rate limits, authentication, permissions or other security controls.
- Probe, scan or test ModMarshal for vulnerabilities without prior written permission.
- Reverse engineer, copy, resell or commercially exploit the service except where the law expressly allows it.
- Use verification records for unrelated profiling, doxxing, surveillance or public shaming.
- Provide false or misleading information about ModMarshal or suggest an official partnership with Discord.
7. Responsibilities of server administrators
Discord server owners and administrators control how ModMarshal is configured in their server. They are responsible for:
- Having authority to install and configure the bot.
- Choosing suitable roles, channels and permissions.
- Explaining relevant server rules and verification requirements to members.
- Limiting access to verification logs and statistics to appropriate staff.
- Using verification information fairly and only for legitimate server management purposes.
- Following data protection, consumer, safeguarding and other laws that apply to their own community.
- Responding to members about moderation decisions made by the server.
ModMarshal does not control a server's rules, moderation decisions or how its administrators use Discord permissions.
8. Third-party services and links
ModMarshal depends on third-party services, including Discord and hosting providers. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to their services. ModMarshal Premium subscriptions are purchased and managed through Discord's Premium Apps billing system.
External links, including links shown in sponsored placements, are provided for convenience. ModMarshal does not control third-party websites and is not responsible for their content, security, availability or handling of information.
9. Availability and changes
ModMarshal may be updated, interrupted, restricted or unavailable because of maintenance, faults, security concerns, hosting issues or changes made by Discord and other providers.
Features may be added, changed or removed. We will try to avoid unnecessary disruption, but continuous or error-free availability is not guaranteed.
You are responsible for keeping any information or records that your server needs independently of ModMarshal.
10. Suspension and termination
Access may be restricted or suspended where reasonably necessary to:
- Protect users, Discord servers or the service.
- Investigate suspected misuse or security issues.
- Comply with law or a valid request.
- Respond to a breach of these terms.
- Deal with technical or operational risks.
A server owner can stop using ModMarshal by removing the bot and revoking its access. A user can revoke the Discord authorisation through Discord's authorised-app settings.
Ending use of ModMarshal does not automatically delete messages already sent to a Discord server's own log channel or records retained by Discord. Deletion requests can be made through the contact page.
11. Intellectual property
ModMarshal's name, branding, website design, original text and software are owned by or licensed to ModMarshal unless stated otherwise.
These terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable right to use the service for its intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership of ModMarshal's software, branding or other intellectual property.
Discord names, logos and related materials belong to Discord or their respective owners.
12. Privacy, cookies and sponsored content
Information is handled as explained in the Privacy Policy. It describes Discord account information, verification records, essential cookies or storage, sponsored content and user rights.
ModMarshal may display clearly labelled sponsored placements that are arranged directly with advertisers. Sponsored placements do not form part of the verification result and do not represent an endorsement by ModMarshal.
Sponsored placements do not use third-party advertising-network scripts or advertising cookies on ModMarshal. If you follow a sponsor link, the destination website's own terms and privacy policy apply.
13. ModMarshal Premium
ModMarshal Premium is an optional recurring monthly subscription for one Discord server. The current price and included benefits are displayed in Discord before purchase. Premium is currently offered as a recurring monthly subscription.
Premium purchases are completed through Discord. Discord handles the checkout, recurring billing, receipts and subscription-management controls. Any taxes or other amounts that apply to the transaction are shown and handled by Discord in accordance with its own paid-services and monetisation terms.
Premium access is attached to the Discord server for which the subscription entitlement was purchased. ModMarshal uses the active Discord entitlement to decide whether Premium features are available to that server.
A subscriber can cancel through Discord's subscription settings. Cancellation does not normally remove the current entitlement immediately; access continues until the end of the current paid subscription period unless Discord ends or refunds the entitlement sooner.
Purchases and refunds are also subject to Discord's applicable paid-services terms and refund rules. Nothing in these terms removes rights that a consumer cannot legally give up.
14. Warranties and service expectations
ModMarshal is provided with reasonable care, but it relies on third-party systems and cannot guarantee that every verification, permission change, log or statistic will always be available, complete or error-free.
The service is not professional legal, security, identity-verification or safeguarding advice. Server owners should use their own judgement and seek suitable professional advice where needed.
Nothing in these terms affects any legal guarantee or statutory right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to that, ModMarshal is not responsible for loss caused by:
- Discord outages, API changes, account action or permission changes outside ModMarshal's control.
- Incorrect server configuration, role order or administrator decisions.
- A member being trusted merely because verification succeeded.
- Unauthorised access caused by a compromised Discord account or credentials you failed to protect.
- Events that could not reasonably have been predicted or prevented.
Where you use ModMarshal for business or commercial purposes, ModMarshal is not responsible for loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, goodwill or anticipated savings, to the extent the law permits.
For consumers, ModMarshal remains responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of a breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. ModMarshal is not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where mandatory law gives you rights under the laws of another country.
Before starting formal proceedings, please contact ModMarshal and give a reasonable opportunity to investigate and resolve the issue.
Consumers may bring proceedings in any court that has jurisdiction under applicable consumer law. Nothing in these terms removes mandatory consumer rights.
17. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated when features, providers or legal requirements change. The updated date at the top of this page will show when the published terms were last revised.
Material changes may also be highlighted on the website. Continuing to use ModMarshal after updated terms take effect means the updated terms will apply from that point, subject to applicable law.
